Smart Monitor

Goal of this research project was to compile a monitoring for the achievement of the goals of the Smart City Vienna Framework Strategy.

The SMART.MONITOR project compiles basic information for the conception of a monitoring system and its indicators in the context of the Smart City. The results are intended to support the creation of a Smart City monitoring system as well as the fulfillment and maintenance of the goals of the Smart City Vienna framework strategy.

The Smart City Vienna framework strategy was adopted by the city council in June 2014. It contains objectives and a road map to achieving those objectives by the year 2050 in order to further the realization of a Smart City Vienna. The fundamental goal is the creation of the best possible quality of life for all Viennese by applying innovations with the greatest possible conservation of resources. In accordance with this goal, the city of Vienna defines goals in the core areas of resources, innovation and quality of life. Six additional issues can be derived from these: education, health, environment, social inclusion, economy and research innovation. These are closely linked with these core areas and help shape city life.

By order of the Chief Executive Director, a monitoring process was introduced in order to study the degree of achievement of the goals set down in the framework strategy. The project partners endeavor to create a concept of indicators and monitoring tools, which is practically oriented and reduces complexity. Thus, a broad application in the city administration of Vienna is achieved. In addition, the thereby created best practice projects should be applicable to comparable Austrian and European cities.

The results of the research project can be found here.
