The structure presented here and the underlying objectives follow the resolution of the Smart City Wien Framework Strategy 2014. The adaptation to the updated version of the Smart City Wien Framework Strategy will follow shortly.
Vienna is the city with the highest number of passive houses and was able to double the share of renewable energy from 5% in 1993 to 11% in 2011. Through various programmes such as the climate protection programme (Klimaschutzprogramm), the municipal energy efficiency programme (Städtisches Energieeffizienz-Programm) or the recent renewable action plan Vienna (Erneuerbarer Energie Plan Wien), the City of Vienna has created an important guideline to further renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Objectives in the area Energy:
- Increase of energy efficiency and decrease of final energy consumption per capita in Vienna by 40% by 2050 (compared to 2005).
- At the same time, the per-capita primary energy input should drop from 3,000 watt to 2,000 watt.
- In 2030, over 20%, and in 2050, 50% of Vienna’s gross energy consumption will originate from renewable sources.
