The structure presented here and the underlying objectives follow the resolution of the Smart City Wien Framework Strategy 2019.
Research and innovation are key tools that will allow us to address the future issues facing the Smart City. Vienna aims to become one of Europe’s leading research centres and an innovation hub for Smart City issues, attracting high-calibre academics and students, researchers and innovative companies and start-ups. At the same time, Smart City Wien aspires to establish a new culture of innovation in which pressing questions are collectively identified and addressed in interdisciplinary projects, producing solutions which are piloted in local “urban labs”.
Objectives in the area Science and Research:
- In 2030, Vienna is one of Europe’s top five research and innovation hubs.
- Vienna is a magnet for top-flight international researchers and the research units of international corporations.
- Vienna initiates large-scale mission-led research and innovation projects as a contribution to the socio-ecological transformation of the economy.
- In Vienna, specific challenges relating to Smart City Wien are identified and resolved cooperatively by the municipal administration, higher education and research institutions, companies and end users.
