Vienna asserted itself in the global comparison of smart city strategies against 152 major cities – for the second time in a row. Already the first ranking in 2017 was headed by Vienna. Behind Vienna, London lands in second place this time, the city of St. Albert in Canada in third place.

Vienna tops Melbourne as world’s most liveable city in “Economist” study

Melbourne led the ranking of the renowned British business magazine “The Economist” for seven consecutive years. Now the Australian metropolis has been dislodged by Vienna. The Japanese city of Osaka is ranked third. Each year, the study evaluates 140 major cities according to criteria such as social security, infrastructure, education, access to health systems, stability and culture.

Vienna ranks first in the “Smart City Index” of Roland Berger

The globally operating consulting company Roland Berger analyzed the strategies of the world’s major cities systematically for the first time in 2017 and created a “Smart City Index”. Vienna ranks first in this international ranking – particularly for the holistic approach of its urban strategy – followed by Chicago and Singapore. Read more

Mercer City Ranking 2017: Vienna the most livable city in the world for the eighth time in a row

For the eighth time in a row, Vienna was voted the world’s most livable city in 2017. The result shows that the Viennese way also convinces internationally.

In 2017 Vienna was again ranked as the city with the world’s highest quality of life by the consulting agency Mercer. This means that Vienna has continuously been at the forefront of this rankings since 2009. The study compares 231 international cities based on 39 criteria, including political, social, economic and environmental factors. With Zurich (rank 2) and Munich (rank 4), two other European cities are among the top five. The top group is completed by Auckland (rank 3) and Vancouver (rank 5). Read more
