The goal of the project is to identify potential sources of waste heat and to assess their usability in the neighborhood or for the district heating system.

The use of waste heat sources is an effective measure for increasing energy efficiency in urban power systems. The goal of the project is to identify potential sources of waste heat and to assess their usability in the neighborhood or for the district heating system. In workshops in the selected potential areas, discussions about implementation options were held with stakeholders from businesses and local interested parties (architects, construction companies) and then usage concepts were worked out and financially evaluated.

Expected results

1. Geodata set from the usable waste heat potential zones with explicitly limited boundaries are identified in Vienna based on available digital foundations as well as the potential characteristics determined
2. Identification of the important waste heat association zones in Vienna by dividing the important waste heat source zones with potential demand areas, including district heating network
3. Stakeholder workshops in the selected waste heat association zones of the test areas to discuss the local usage options and necessary accompanying measures
4. Development of technical draft concepts for the use of waste heat for the test areas. An economic feasibility analysis is to be conducted for the projects based on the concepts and a list of actions for overcoming barriers is to be created.
