During the construction as well as during operation, climate friendly technologies are used in the Marxbox. For that the project has been awarded the “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design”-certification in gold.

At “New Marx“ listed buildings from the 19th century are adapted for the 21st century. Flexibility, energy efficiency, modern technology, and durability are architectural standards for all new projects.

One example is the “Marxbox” in Helmut-Qualtinger-Gasse in Landstrasse, Vienna’s 3rd district. Approximately 11,700 square meters are available for rent as laboratory or office space. The building offers flexible ceiling heights and maximum energy efficiency. Marxbox has been specifically developed for companies in the field of life sciences. It is part of the expansion of the Campus Vienna Biocenter (VBC), which has already become an internationally acclaimed location for scientific research. Current tenants are the Department of Molecular Biotechnology of the FH Campus Vienna, as well as several national and international biotechnology companies and organisations.

Award

Marxbox has been awarded LEED Gold certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) by the U.S. Green Building Council. This high rating is only given to buildings where the use of climate-friendly technologies to actively reduce greenhouse gas emissions is applied during the construction or renovation phase as well as during the operation of the buildings. This will subsequently also result in lower operating costs for tenants. Marxbox is the first laboratory building in Austria to receive this certification.

Marxbox was developed by the Wiener Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft (WSE), a company of Wien Holding GmbH, and the S+B Group.
